It is all part of the $25 billion settlement reached this year between federal and state agencies and the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers over fraudulent foreclosure document processing (so-called “robo-signing”).

The Myth of America’s Decline Is Just That – A Myth: Dan Gross | Daily Ticker - Yahoo! Finance ;.. The hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs that were shipped overseas severely blunted the manufacturing sector, yet a turnaround for the industry and American workers looks promising. The Institute for Supply Management reported that its index of U.S. manufacturing activity rose to 54.8 in April, the highest level since June 2011, as new orders, production and employment increased. Readings above 50 indicate expansion.
Gross traveled across the country, meeting with small business owners and executives in various industries and sectors to get a firsthand look at how businesses and individuals have adapted since the 2008 crisis.

Ballot Box Breakdown: How Europe’s Elections Will Heat Up the Debt Crisis | Business | TIME.com

Ballot Box Breakdown: How Europe’s Elections Will Heat Up the Debt Crisis | Business | TIME.com ;.. But perhaps the most misguided notion of all was the apparent assumption among European leaders that voters would meekly accept that strategy, despite the economic suffering and social upheaval it has been creating.

That delusion was shattered on Sunday. In France, Socialist candidate François Hollande beat out Nicolas Sarkozy, one of the key architects of the euro zone’s economic policies, to become the country’s new President. Even more telling, in Greece, the two main political parties, which have supported the biting austerity program mandated by the euro zone in return for two massive bailouts, got trounced. About 60% of the vote went to smaller parties, most of which campaigned against the pledges of austerity and reform made by Athens. Most notably, support for one such party, the Coalition of the Radical Left, known as Syriza, more than tripled from the last election, making it the second largest party in parliament with one-sixth of the 300 seats.

Economic Nostradamus: We Are Literally Witnessing a Collapse

Economic Nostradamus: We Are Literally Witnessing a Collapse ;.. In this current recession, we are not even close (to getting the jobs back) and that’s 50 months and counting.
The fact of the matter is that meaningful jobs won’t be returning any time soon. Recent (un)employment data indicates that cumulatively we are losing jobs each and every month. And, those jobs that do become available are minimum wage jobs that are insufficient to offset the income loss we’ve experienced since 2008.
The bottom line is that if people don’t have money, they can’t consume to keep the economy going. This leads to a vicious negative feedback loop that forces small (and large) business employers to lay off workers, which takes even more money out of the economy, which subsequently leads to more business closures and cutbacks.

China smartphone market to overtake US: IDC - Yahoo! News Singapore

China smartphone market to overtake US: IDC - Yahoo! News Singapore  ..."(China) smartphone shipments are expected to take a slim lead over the US in 2012 before the gap widens in the coming years," said Wong Teck Zhung, IDC's regional senior market analyst with the client devices team.
"There will be no turning back this leadership changeover."
Much of the growth in smartphone shipments in China, and also for the other emerging markets such as India and Brazil, are being fuelled by mobile handsets running on Google's Android platform, said IDC.
"A lot of the Android models in China are priced competitively," said Melissa Chau, IDC's regional research manager.
"That is actually driving the huge growth."
Chau said the average price of a non-Apple smartphone in China sold for $324 excluding telco subsidies last year while an iPhone retailed at a much higher $760.
